Dr. Stavros Parlalis
Dr. Stavros ParlalisDirector of Laboratory of Safety in the Community
Dr Parlalis K. Stavros received both his Masters Degree in Policy Studies (2003) and his Doctorate in Social Work (2008) by the University of Edinburgh, Scotland. He obtained his BA in Social Work in 2003 by the ATEI of Crete, Greece. He currently works as Assistant Professor in Psychology and Social Sciences at Frederick University. He is lecturing at both the undergraduate and graduate levels; he is also lecturing in the Distance Learning Programs of Special Education and that of Adult Education. In the past, he has worked as social worker for five years for Enable Scotland, Edinburgh (2003-2008). He has published one monograph titled as “De-institutionalisation of Persons with Intellectual Disabilities in the Republic of Cyprus” (Power Publishing 2012, p.210) and he has edited the publication of the book titled as “Social Work Applications in Greece and Cyprus” (Pedio Publications 2011, p.368). In addition, he has published papers in international journals and chapters in edited books. He has participated in middle-scale funded research projects such (e.g. RPF, Erasmus+, LIFE) as researcher, research team coordinator and project manager. His main research interests focus on the study of organisational changes, organisational development, de-institutionalisation of persons with disabilities and issues concern vulnerable groups of people (e.g. persons with disabilities, immigrants, homeless).
Dr. Alexandros Argyriadis
Dr. Alexandros ArgyriadisResearcher
Dr. Alexandros Argyriadis is an Assistant Professor at Frederick University, in the domain of Community Health with an emphasis on Mental Health and Learning Disabilities. He has previously taught at the University of East London, the University of South Wales, the Hellenic Open University and the University of Thessaly, the University of West Attica and other well-known universities. The courses he has taught are related to the inclusive education of people with disabilities, cultural and medical anthropology, mental and family health, health promotion and teaching methods, special education and social inequalities. At Frederick University, he coordinates the Distance Learning Master's Program in Community Health Care and the Practicum of the MEd in Special Education. He has authored numerous scholarly books and high impact factor articles; he has been the publisher of the scientific journal "Culture Journal" and participates in several editorial boards of international scientific journals. Indicatively, he is the Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the “Health and Research” journal as well as at the journal “Vima tou Asklipiou”. His work includes numerous presentations at scientific conferences, elaboration of research programs and public activities in education. He often teaches as a visiting Professor at universities abroad and designs contemporary interdisciplinary activities. Administratively, he is a member of several committees at Frederick University but also in other international organizations such as the European Union Commission, the Assessors team of the Latvian Ministry of Education Academic Information Center (AIC) / Quality Agency for Higher Education (AIKA), a member of the Electors register of Hellenic Mediterranean University and others. His research interests focus on diversity and inclusion, people with disabilities, special education, health promotion and education and community health.
Ms. Koulla Erotokritou

Koulla Erotokritou is a licenced social worker. She graduated with a BA and an MA in Social Work from Frederick University. Since 2018 she is PhD candidate in the Psychology and Social Sciences Department at Frederick University. She has been working at the University Frederick since 2006 and she is currently a Special Teaching Staff member in the Social Work Programme.In the last 4 years she worked with the planning, organization, development, implementation and participation in European programs and research on mental illness, the elderly, immigrants-intercultural education, juvenile delinquency, interpersonal relationships, empowerment of vulnerable groups, diversity, communication, emotions, culture and social skills, self-awareness, and others. He has trained vulnerable groups (elderly, women, immigrants) to integrate or reintegrate into society, and acquiring social skills, networking those served by businesses to employment and their employment.
Dr. Nataly Loizidou Ieridou
Dr. Nataly Loizidou IeridouResearcher
Dr. Nataly Loizidou Ieridou is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychology and Social Sciences at Frederick University where she has been a faculty member since 2006, teaching undergraduate and postgraduate students of the School of Education and Social Sciences. As from February 2024 she is the head of the Department of Psychology and Social Sciences. She completed her Ph.D. in Psychology, at the University of Essex, her Master Degree at the Institute of Education, University of London (Master in Child Development) and her undergraduate studies at the University of Nottingham (BA in Psychology). Her research activity that is published in scientific journals and presented in scientific conferences covers several areas of her scientific domain. Her research interests lie in the areas of developmental and school psychology, specifically in the development of literacy skills and the psychological perspective of special education, as well as factors affecting school life (both academic and socioemotional and the interaction between them).
Dr. Louiza Ioannidou
Dr. Louiza IoannidouResearcher
Dr. Louiza Ioannidou has been a Lecturer at the Department of Psychology and Social Sciences of Frederick University since 2020. Before that, she worked as a special teaching staff (2015-2020). She has been a registered School Psychologist since 2009. She obtained her PhD in Psychology in 2019, her MA in School Psychology in 2009 (which included 1600 hours of supervised clinical practice over three years), and her BA in Psychology in 2005 from the University of Cyprus. She teaches courses in undergraduate and postgraduate study programs at the School of Education and Social Sciences, specifically in the Department of Psychology and Social Sciences and the Department of Education. She also teaches in the distance learning program for Special Education in the Department of Education. As part of her continuing education, she was trained in Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy for children and adults, Positive Psychology, Therapy and Management of Eating Disorders and Obesity (Master Practitioner in Eating Disorders and Obesity), Mindfulness, Solution Focused Therapy, and Business - Team Coaching. Her research interests focus on the mental resilience and well-being of children and adolescents, the development, implementation, and evaluation of psychoeducational preventative programs, school bullying and victimization, and psychopathology. Her research findings are published in scientific journals and presented at scientific conferences.
Dr. Marios Theodorou
Dr. Marios TheodorouResearcher
Dr. Marios Theodorou is Lecturer of Clinical Psychology (2023, Frederick University). He holds a BA in Psychology from University of Cyprus (2010), MSc in Psychology (track Clinical) from Leiden University (2011) and PhD in Clinical Psychology from University of Cyprus (2018). He completed his Doctoral Internship at several settings such as the military hospital, ITHAKI community counselling center (substance abuse), university counselling center (University of Cyprus), Central Jail of Nicosia and Bank of Cyprus Oncology Centre. He primarily studies how emotional and cognitive processes are related to mental health and wellbeing. In addition to basic lab research and cross-sectional studies, Dr. Theodorou is currently involved (as a co-PI) in pilot feasibility RCTs on mental health prevention and promotion for higher education students (Erasmus + KA2 projects: LEVEL-UP and Mash UP ‘n HEI). He has previously worked as a teaching staff (undergraduate level) and researcher in University of Cyprus. He is a licensed clinical psychologist, and he has been board member of several well-established NGOs in Cyprus, such as the Cyprus Youth Council (2015-2016), Cyprus Family Association (2019-2021), and KENTHEA (2019-2021). In 2022, he was appointed by the Government as a member of the scientific advisory committee on active citizenship and participatory governance.
