The "Save Our Food" project was a new project that lasted two years and was coordinated by the Frederick Research Center (FRC) and more specifically by Dr. Parlalis K. Stavros of the Department of Psychology and Social Sciences (Frederick University).FRC's partners in this project were the Municipality of Aglantzia, the Cyprus Youth Organization, the District Volunteer Coordinating Council of Nicosia and the organization "Boroume" from Greece.
The project had two main objectives. The sub-objectives of the project were a) To reduce the volume of wasted food at different levels of economic activity, e.g. from supermarkets, shops, restaurants, catering companies, hotels and other catering establishments; b) to provide food to people who cannot meet their basic needs by offering them food that would otherwise be thrown away; and c) to organise awareness raising seminars throughout Cyprus for young people (aged between 16-35 years) on food waste and the circular economy.
The project was implemented with great success at the local level, meaning the Municipality of Aglantzia, and even today (April 2024) the project continues with the financial support of the Municipality of Aglantzia.
